problems getting your tattoo to stay in the ear? My experience is that it is one of three things. A. Ink problems Good ink that has been sitting & has not been shaken up really well will separate. I started putting copper BB's in the bottom of each bottle of ink to help it mix better when people shake it. It won't look separated but it is. Also, if you have let it sit out in the barn & freeze it could cause the ink to be bad. I'm not 100% sure on this but I have let a few bottles freeze up on me & I was not as happy with the results later on. Good ink should be a tiny bit thicker than water or even thicker. Never super watery. It should cling to the needle & leave color behind even when wiped from the needle with a dry paper towel. Ink that has been diluted to much with alcohol will be a little "greasy" & may float on water. B. Bent needle (especially the standard needles) could be bent just ever so much right at the tip. You would not notice it at first glance. The tattooer would appear to work fine & still put the ink out on the surface of the ear like normal but the needle is not penetrating the skin so the tattoo does not stay. Anyone having this problem should look at the tip of the needle in good lighting to see if they have a bent needle. The one draw back to these human quality tattoo needles is that they are very fine & rather delicate compared to the bat-tatt needles. People need to take really good care of these if they want them to last. The standard needles are the most likely to be bent if the tattooer has been dropped or the protective cork is not kept on when its stored in the box. The medium & bold needles are a little more durable because there are more needles in the cluster. The needles on the outside edge of the cluster may get damaged but they still work because the needles in the center are more protected. C. Did you practice on a banana peal first? Possibly some other type of fruit? If you did & you didn't clean the needle properly there could be a tiny bit of peal stuck between the needles. This will cause them to spread & not work properly. Also, you must clean the needle after practicing on the banana or whatever. I don't recommend anything but bananas. The fruit acids from the skin can cling to the needle & keep the ink from sticking to it. If the ink does not stick to the needle the needle cannot carry the ink into the skin of the rabbits ear. Again, everything will appear to function normally but when you wipe the excess ink away the whole tattoo will go with it. Glenna |
