Vanodine.com has been working closely with Evans these past months (the UK Vanodine supplier) to re-establish the Vanodine shipments into the US. We have just been informed by Evans that they are still not able to re-establish their product supply line to the US. With that in mind, we have let Evans know that we (Vanodine.com) will not be able to continue maintaining the overhead of our US business without any product to sell. Vanodine.com will be discontinued until Evans is able to re-open the product shipment lines. The website, phone numbers and our Vanodine.com methods as a whole will be closed shortly, until such time as we can re-establish a supply channel. IKind Regards, Vanodine.com Customer Service

Vanodine & FAM FAQ's
WHY DO YOU NEED VANODINE? Vanodine V.18 is an Iodophor, specially formulated and
stabilized for use with all types of livestock and domestic pets. V.18 should be
regarded as a biocide. This is because a biocide inactivates ALL types of
organisms, viruses, bacteria and even fungi. Most disinfectants are selective in
what they kill. Vanodine is a necessity for all breeders and animal caretakers.
Used to control the spread of disease in the air, water and living environment
of animal groups. Use it in aviaries, rabbitries, hatcheries, catteries, kennels, habitats and
more! It cleans and disinfects in one step!

What is the differ
FAM is the stronger version of Vanodine. It can be used in large amounts for
large animal use. It can also be used for small amounts as long as it is diluted
properly. Overall FAM is more effective. Note: FAM is NOT FAM30. Fam30 has a
higher iodine content than FAM and is no longer authorized for import into the
What is the
difference between Betadine and Vanodine?
Here is the direct answer from Evans regarding this question -
PVP iodine and Iodophor Iodine are two entirely different formulations. PVP
stands for poly vinyl Pyridlidone which is a molecule which contains 10 % Iodine
by weight so a formulation with 10 % PVP will contain 1% free
iodine. V18 Contains 1.8% iodine.
An iodophor is a chemical complex of iodine with surfactant ( a kind of
detergent ). The two products are release iodine differently PVP releases it
immediately. Iodophors release iodine in a controlled manner.
PVP based products like Betadine are antiseptics not disinfectants, they can be
safely used on the skin and are only effective in killing organisms on
relatively clean surfaces, they have no ability to resist organic matter /
soiling and are easily inactivated.
Iodophors are designed to kill organisms in heavily soiled conditions and the
surfactant allows the iodine to penetrate absorbent surfaces. Iodophors are not
designed for skin contact ( because of the acids) although in very dilute
solutions they make effective water disinfectants.
V18 will have much higher performance than Betadine.
How long does Vanodine last?
Vanodine has a shelf life if 3 years as long as it is kept in a cool place
completely out of the sun.
How much Vanodine or FAM do I use?
That varies upon your use. If you want to use it in eyes or drinking water you
would dilute more than for regular disinfecting.
Vanodine
& FAM Dilution Information
Note: V18 and FAM are in CONCENTRATED form.
You will need to dilute before application in order to avoid irritation of the
skin. The dilution instructions are also on the label.
Vanodine (V18) Dilution rates:
Disinfect Water 1/2-3/4 teaspoon gallon
Aerial Disinfecting 2 1/4 teaspoon per gallon
General Disinfecting 4 1/2 teaspoon per gallon
Foot Trays & Heavily Soiled Surfaces 3 3/4 Tablespoon gallon
Note: the use on an animal's skin directly is not approved by Evans (the
manufacturer). Although tested in other countries and via lab studies with
positive results in the correct dilution....This product has not been tested by
the manufacturer for the specific topical use directly. Therefore we cannot
recommend for legal reasons. Evans does recommend using it at 1:200 dilution for
hand washing and then rinsing your hands as you normally would. The following is
what has been used by breeders and
Wound Spray - 1 teaspoon per gallon
FAM Dilution rates:
Drinking water system sanitation - 1/3 teaspoon per
gallon
Aerial disinfection - 1 1/2 teaspoon per gallon
General disinfection - 4 1/2 teaspoon per gallon
Foot trays & heavily soiled surfaces - 2 Tablespoon per gallon

What
is the benefit of Vanodine & FAM over other disinfection products?
When properly diluted - Vanodine and FAM provide deep cleansing into soiled
areas. Many other disinfectants require you to
remove the animal, all food and all water from the cage before using, as well as
thoroughly rinsing off after application. Also, other disinfectants do not
release iodine at a controlled rate as they move through the soiled area. These
disinfectants will immediately 'flash' disinfect only on the surface level.
Vanodine can be applied directly on their cage and around their food and water.
How do I know
when the Vanodine is no longer effective?
That's the nice thing about Vanodine and FAM! When the solution is no longer
effective it will change color. As long as it remains a dark brown to amber
color it is working. It will lighten considerably when it is no longer active
and is time to get a new batch.
Does
it kill bacteria and viruses inside the animal when used in drinking water?
No it does not. Drinking water sanitation is for disinfection of the water
itself from spreading disease and other things which may be shared from animal
to animal. It will not kill a disease which is already internal to the animal.
Can
Vanodine be used as a fly repellent?
No it does not work as a fly repellent. It can be used in misters in order
to kill bacteria in the air, but is not helpful as a fly repellent.

Applications for use in Rabbitries -
Aviaries
Livestock Barns (Goats, horses, swine and cattle)
APPLICATIONS IN THE RABBITRY:
VANODINE FAM and V-18 should be regarded as a biocide rather than just a disinfectant. A biocide inactivates ALL types of organisms, viruses, bacteria and even fungi. A disinfectant does not necessarily do this for most disinfectants are "selective: in what they kill. Very few are effective against antibiotic-resistant organisms
which now worry the livestock producer, as a result of extensive use of antibiotics. Only a few of the corrosive types of disinfectant are effective against fungi spores and these levels are only efficient at dangerously strong dilution levels.
VANODINE is safe for use in drinking water
to prevent the spread of water born disease and increases resistance to other diseases the
rabbit may be exposed to during transport or exhibition. It is not
intended to kill disease within the animal only to kill pathogens in the water
which can be a source of infection for the livestock.
Dilute VANODINE at the rate of 1/2-3/4
teaspoon per gallon of water for sterlizing water.
SANITATION: Use VANODINE for cleaning feeders, water
bottles and crocks, cages, tattoo equipment and nest boxes. Use VANODINE
to disinfect hands after handling sick animals or spray in judging coops between classes.
Dilute VANODINE at the rate of 4-1/2
teaspoons per gallon of water for cleaning and disinfecting.
TREATING INJURIES:
Open wounds caused by fighting or sore hocks, weepy eyes, cysts etc. can be treated with Fam or V-18 . and has powerful antiseptic properties as well as being an anesthetic. Dilute at the rate of 1 teaspoon per gallon of water.
AVOIDING MEDICAL PROBLEMS:
In the rabbitry, Vanodine can be used most effectively to control such things as Pasteurellosis including "Snuffles" and most respiratory troubles. It can be used against those forms of enteritis which are pathogenic, against Parathyphoid, Salmonellosis, Tuberculosis, Strangles, Ringworm, etc. For Aerial Disinfecting dilute at the rate of 2 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water.
A strict program of hygiene is imperative to reduce loss of litters, early death of kits, or financially devastating veterinary bills to save the family pet or commercial herd. This is where Vanodine will prove it's worth. All walls, cages, crocks, feeders and nest boxes should be washed as often as practicable to keep down harmful germs.
Drinking water should be sterilized to stop the spread of infection by adding ½ teaspoon of Vanodine per gallon of water. Well water is often the source of infection as are automatic water lines which can transmit infection from one animal to the next. Vanodine kills the pathogens in the water making it safe for the rabbit to drink.
FOOT BATHS:
Fam should be used in foot baths at the dilution rate of 2-3 tablespoons per gallon of water. One advantage to Vanodine over other disinfectants is that the color indicates that the solution is still active. While it still has color, it is working, but once it loses it's color then this should be taken as a guide to discard the solution and recharge the foot bath.
Foot bathes can be used to treat sore hocks or to prevent disease from being carried into or out of your rabbitry. A shallow tray or piece of carpet thoroughly saturated with Fam placed at the entrance where visitors wipe their feet will help keep your rabbitry healthy.
For breeders who use wooden resting boards or for
solid floored cages, V-18 or Fam is excellent for disinfecting areas soiled by urine or
feces.
